Let Go of What They Used To Be

Acts 9:17 (KJV)

And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.

Ananias’ attitude toward Saul of Tarsus changed as suddenly as Saul of Tarsus’ attitude toward Christians. It’s no wonder both met the Lord.

As the account progresses, we know that not all the believers were as quick to change their attitudes. There were people, like Barnabas, who took a chance on him. Others continued to be skeptical of him. There were some who accepted him once Barnabas endorsed him. But Ananias — he went from questioning the Lord to putting his hands on Saul and referring to him as “Brother Saul.”

It is the Lord who changes our hearts and calms our fears. It is the Lord who confirms within us the relationship we may have with another of the faith.

Those who know the Lord ought to embrace others who know the Lord. We ought to let go of what people used to be and see them in the light of who God has created them to be.
